Amazon Is Not A Commerce Company

amazon logoSame-day shipping became the big retailer craze this holiday season. Why? As the New York Times points out, retailers are living in fear of Amazon.com and trying to match what the online retailer offers. The fear factor -- Wal-Mart once had a trance on retail. Now it's Amazon.com. But it's not just retail that has begun to show deeper anxiety about Amazon. Its' the enterprise giants, too, that pay far more attention to the moves Amazon makes. Commerce came first, now Amazon is prepping to have the same impact on big data and the software markets.

Not only was Swifty introduced to Harry's family, but it sounds like she really bonded with his sister, Gemma, after clearing her schedule for the trip!

Reportedly, Taylor was overheard telling Gemma that she thinks the 1D heartthrob is "amazing," while they were all out together at the pub!

However, though Haylor makes for a SUPER cute young Hollywood couple? could they be moving too quickly??

An insider revealed:

"This [relationship] has gone from zero to 60 in seconds. Harry is totally in love. I can see them getting married in a week, just going for it."

Holy shiz! Could there really be a Haylor wedding on the horizon?!

We hope they aren't rushing anything!

(AP) ? Arab League chief Nabil Elaraby said Saturday that two decades of talks with Israel have been "a waste of time" and that Palestinians will soon take a new statehood bid to the U.N.

The U.N. General Assembly last month endorsed a de facto Palestinian state in the West Bank, east Jerusalem and Gaza, areas Israel won in a 1967 war. But outright recognition of statehood status for Palestine fell short last year before the more powerful U.N. Security Council.

"We will return to the U.N. Security Council," he said in Ramallah Saturday after meeting Palestinian officials. "Palestine will be cooperating with Arab and EU countries to change the equation (in the peace process) that prevailed over the past 20 years, which was a waste of time."

By mentioning other states and the European Union, some may interpret Elaraby's remarks as implying that the international community should intervene and impose a solution to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.

Talks collapsed in 2008 after Palestinians demanded Israel stop building in areas they want for a future state. Israel insists settlements and other core issues should be resolved in talks themselves.

Experts: Trained police needed for school security

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The student's attack began with a shotgun blast through the windows of a California high school. Rich Agundez, the El Cajon policeman assigned to the school, felt his mind shift into overdrive.

People yelled at him amid the chaos but he didn't hear. He experienced "a tunnel vision of concentration."

While two teachers and three students were injured when the glass shattered in the 2001 attack on Granite Hills High School, Agundez confronted the assailant and wounded him before he could get inside the school and use his second weapon, a handgun.

The National Rifle Association's response to a Connecticut school massacre envisions, in part, having trained, armed volunteers in every school in America. But Agundez, school safety experts and school board members say there's a huge difference between a trained law enforcement officer who becomes part of the school family ? and a guard with a gun.

The NRA's proposal has sparked a debate across the country as gun control rises once again as a national issue. President Barack Obama promised to present a plan in January to confront gun violence in the aftermath of the killing of 20 Sandy Hook Elementary School students and six teachers in Newtown, Conn.

Agundez said what happened before the shooting in the San Diego County school should frame the debate over the NRA's proposal.

With a shooting at another county school just weeks before, Agundez had trained the staff in how to lock down the school, assigned evacuation points, instructed teachers to lock doors, close curtains and turn off the lights. He even told them computers should be used where possible to communicate, to lessen the chaos.

And his training? A former SWAT team member, Agundez' preparation placed him in simulated stressful situations and taught him to evade a shooter's bullets. And the kids in the school knew to follow his advice because they knew him. He spoke in their classrooms and counseled them when they came to him with problems.

In the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre, school boards, administrators, teachers and parents are reviewing their security measures.

School security officers can range from the best-trained police officers to unarmed private guards. Some big-city districts with gang problems and crime formed their own police agencies years ago. Others, after the murder of 13 people at Columbine High School in 1999, started joint agreements with local police departments to have officers assigned to schools ? even though that was no guarantee of preventing violence. A trained police officer at Columbine confronted one of two shooters but couldn't prevent the death of 13 people.

"Our association would be uncomfortable with volunteers," said Mo Canady, executive director of the National Association of School Resource Officers ? whose members are mostly trained law enforcement officers who "become part of the school family.'"

Canady questioned how police officers responding to reports of a shooter would know whether the person with a gun is a volunteer or the assailant.

Former Rep. Asa Hutchinson, who also was a top Homeland Security official and will head the NRA effort, said the program will have two key elements.

One is a model security plan "based on the latest, most up-to-date technical information from the foremost experts in their fields." Each school could tweak the plan to its own circumstances, and "armed, trained, qualified school security personnel will be but one element."

The second element may prove the more controversial because, to avoid massive funding for local authorities, it would use volunteers. Hutchinson said in his home state of Arkansas, his son was a volunteer with a local group "Watchdog Dads," who volunteered at schools to patrol playgrounds and provide added security.

He said retired police officers, former members of the military or rescue personnel would be among those likely to volunteer.

There's even debate over whether anyone should have a gun in a school, even a trained law enforcement officer.

"In general teachers don't want guns in schools period," said Dennis Van Roekel, president of the National Education Association, one of the two large unions representing teachers. He added that one size does not fit all districts and said the union has supported schools that wanted a trained officer. Most teachers, he said, do not want to be armed themselves.

"It's a school. It's not a place where guns should be," he commented.

The security situation around the country is mixed.

?Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he has the authority to mobilize private citizens to fight crime and plans to post armed private posse members around the perimeter of schools. He said he hasn't spoken to specific school districts and doesn't plan to have the citizen posse members inside the buildings.

?The Snohomish School District north of Seattle got rid of its school officers because of the expense.

?The Las Vegas-based Clark County School District has its own police department and places armed officers in and around its 49 high school campuses. Officers patrol outside elementary and middle schools. The Washoe County School District in Nevada also has a police force, but it was only about a decade ago that the officers were authorized to carry guns on campus.

?In Milwaukee, a dozen city police officers cover the school district but spend most of their time in seven of the 25 high schools. In Madison, Wis., an armed police officer has worked in each of the district's four high schools since the mid-1990s.

?For the last five years, an armed police officer has worked in each of the two high schools and three middle schools in Champaign, Ill. Board of Education member Kristine Chalifoux said there are no plans to increase security, adding, "I don't want our country to become an armed police state."

?A Utah group is offering free concealed-weapons permit training for teachers as a result of the Connecticut shootings. Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne proposed a plan to allow one educator in each school to carry a gun.

Ed Massey, vice chairman of the Boone County, Ky., school board and president of the National School Boards Association, said his district has nine trained law enforcement officers for 23 schools and "would love to have one in every school."

"They bring a sense of security and have done tremendous work in deterring problems in school," he said. "The number of expulsions have dramatically decreased. We used to have 15 or 20 a year. Now we have one or two in the last three years."

An officer, he said, "is not just a hired gun. They have an office in the school. They are trained in crisis management, handling mass casualties and medical emergencies."

He said a poster given out by the local sheriff's department shows one of the officers and talks about literacy and reading.

Kenneth Trump, president of the National School Safety and Security Services consulting firm, said having trained officers in schools is "more of a prevention program than a reactive program if you have the right officers who want to work with kids."

But he also criticized a drop in funding for school security, saying, "Congress and the last two administrations have chipped away to the point of elimination of every program for school security and emergency planning."

Dr. Ronald Stephens, executive director of the National School Safety Center that provides training to schools, said the NRA's suggestion of using volunteers "is a whole new concept of school safety." He questioned whether the NRA wants to bring the best sharpshooters on campus.

"How is that going to create a positive atmosphere for young people?" he asked. "How does that work on the prevention side?"

Agundez, 52, who retired as a policeman in 2010, learned shortly before his retirement just how much his trained reaction to a shooter affected students at Granite Hills High.

He was writing a traffic ticket and the driver's whole body started shaking. He had been a student that day nine years earlier.

"He gave me a hug," Agundez recalled. "He said 'I always wanted to thank you.' You saved our lives."

10 Tips For Promoting Your Business Or Product On ... - Name.com

10 TIPS FOR PROMOTING YOUR BUSINESS OR PRODUCT ON PINTEREST

Pinterest isn?t just a place for bored housewives to find new recipes and cute shoes. As of April 2012, Pinterest had more than 104 million monthly visits from people around the world. The site also currently boasts a 145 percent daily increase in the amount of users, an accomplishment that very few other sites have achieved. High traffic levels like this should not be ignored during online marketing campaigns. You?re off to the right start if you?re already advertising on Twitter and Facebook, but millions of men and women are still waiting to find you on Pinterest.

Visit The Site

Pinterest is unlike any social networking site you have ever seen. Instead of status updates and Tweets, the site is filled with photo after photo of products, places, recipes, and other interesting things. Familiarize yourself with this unique site before you begin working on your advertising campaign. The approaches that work on Facebook and Twitter won?t produce the same results on Pinterest.

Pin High-Quality Photos

Your current online marketing strategy may revolve around well-written words, but that won?t impress most of the users on Pinterest. Pinterest is a visual site, almost like a virtual scrapbook. Many members find that Pinterest is an escape from the lengthy text found in articles and blogs. They come to the site to relax and have fun. Attract their interest with large, vivid photos that don?t blend into the background. Make sure that each photo is crisp and clear, not blurry or hard to see.

Pin Unique Photos

Pinterest isn?t a dumping ground for all the stock photos relevant to your business or product. You want users to look at your photo and think, ?Oh wow, I have?to have this.? Your product doesn?t have to be unique, but your approach does. It doesn?t matter if you are selling the same refrigerator as 500 other businesses on the site if you have a ?Pinnable? photo that attracts repins, likes, and comments. Search the site for similar photos if you aren?t sure whether yours will make the cut or not.

Don?t Be Spammy

Nobody likes to hear - or see - the same thing over and over again. Go easy on the photos and messages about your product. Yes, your product is wonderful, but nobody will care if you bombard them with information about it. It?s okay to pin multiple things each day, but make sure the photos are different. If you only have one product that you want to advertise on Pinterest, make sure that you only pin each photo once. Take pictures from different angles or with different people using the item. Switch the lighting. ?Experiment with sepia tones and other fun editing tricks. Do whatever it takes to create photos that won?t have your viewers searching for the ?unfollow? button.

Choose the Right Category

You wouldn?t advertise a washer and dryer in the travel section, and food doesn?t belong on the part of the site that?s dedicated to fashion. Pick the right category for your photos to ensure that they receive the maximum amount of exposure. Some items can fit into more than one category, so keep that in mind if you are pinning multiple photos of the same item. For example, a mixer could be pinned under Products as well as Food & Drink.

Sprinkle In Keywords ?

Some users know exactly what they want and do not want to waste time browsing different categories to find it. Figure out who your audience is and choose keywords that will appeal to them. You don?t need to focus on SEO or use a keyword tool; remember, you are not writing for the web. Simply put yourself in the mind of your product?s users and think of terms that would bring them to your picture. ?You can also use words in your product description that will draw in fellow Pinners while indirectly promoting your product. Instead of posting a picture of a spatula, pin a picture of cookies and say something like, ?Next time you make your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe, try using this spatula.?

Interact With Others

Pinterest is not as social as Facebook or Twitter, but some interaction is still expected. Follow users who might be interested in your product or services. Like and repin their pictures. Comment on their photos and boards. Comments should not be spammy; instead of, ?Come check out my products.? say something like, ?Awesome pic.? Focus on them. Now is the time to participate with no expectations rather than promote your items. Users want to feel like you value their interests as opposed to only seeing them as potential customers.

Don?t Hide Your URLs

You can?t advertise on this popular social networking site if your account is banned, so follow all of the rules. Read the TOS carefully before you post any photos or promote your business. Some companies do not allow you to cloak your URLs, so avoid hiding the fact that you are an affiliate when you post your pics. You don?t have to mention that you?re an affiliate in the description, but you may need to keep your URLs in their original format. Guidelines can change frequently, so check for changes often to avoid potential issues.

Create Several Boards

Some companies create one board with a bunch of pictures and think that they?ve done enough. That?s not how Pinterest works. Create several different boards, including a few fun ones. People want to know that you are a human being with hobbies and interests, even if you own a large business. Post pics of tropical islands, yummy foods, and anything else that strikes your interest. Just make sure to avoid controversial things such as religion or politics, unless you don?t mind losing a few customers. Racism and overly sexual photos are always off limits.

Let Others Help

Every great marketer knows that testimonials and unsolicited positive feedback are some of the best ways to advertise a product. Be active on the site to increase the chances of other users sharing your photos. Share your boards on Facebook and other social networking sites to increase visibility. Encourage your customers to help you promote your products by asking them to pin their favorite products from your website. Many plugins are available for websites and blogs that make it easy for people to share photos directly from your site, so explore your options to find one that works well for your page.

Letting your customers help advertise your product on Pinterest can definitely increase sales. Combine your own marketing methods with the help of others, and watch your revenue continue to grow. Social networking is rapidly replacing traditional forms of advertising media, such as television commercials and radio ads. Don?t get left behind - learn how to utilize the marketing potential of Pinterest today.

Theoretical frameworks on supplier relationship management in ...

Abstract? The evolution of modern communication methods, especially the transfer of data and information via the Internet, allowing companies to relocate relationships with business partners worldwide. New trends in the field of management, especially in the economic instability that shakes the world, have generated an increase in the significance of the concept of supplier relationship management (SRM). Enterprises that grants importance to this new concept become more flexible in dealings. By exchange of information they can streamline business processes more effectively and may have better access to resources boom. In this context, the success of an organization is due not only to their own efforts, but undoubtedly the result of collaboration with partners.
Keywords- supply relationship management, commitment, influence, behavior, collaboration, partnership.
I. INTRODUCTION
The deepening global economic disparities at regional or country level produces dramatic effects in the approach of business relationships. Constant changes in the market involve companies in a global competition [1]. Thus, in response to the upheavals of the new economic environment, companies can use competitive behavior and readjustment strategies to widening communications with business partners [2]. These challenges are forcing economic operators to accept and implement new technologies, to adopt modified forms of organization and management, to connect and to join electronic networks for transferring information for not coming in isolation, and, last but not least, to look in a different way the contribution of individual to the development of the company and its corporate strategies. Therefore, in terms of access to increasingly limited resources the option for integration and strengthening relations in the supply chain enables a better understanding of the needs and desires of partners [3]. Moreover, creating and maintaining a good supplier relationships emerges as a breath of new managerial philosophy based on several key features: growth and development, respect, partnership, proper risk management, developing new capabilities. But all this requires costs. Which weigh in company option to choose and maintain certain providers is undoubtedly the benefit consistency made on short or long term. Thus, by permanent concern they have, respective coordinate activities in order to obtain a benefit, companies focus more on suppliers than customers. Close collaboration with a valuable set of suppliers is always more productive than termination with them [5]. With such perspective customers and suppliers are not intended primarily to maximize short-term trading results, but looking for an advantage generated by long-term ties. Thus, through the relationship with suppliers, business management is put into a new light, and companies that are willing to embrace this philosophy will acquire in time adequate results. It is necessary to seek along with the partners the most effective ways of maintaining risk management business credibility and commitment initiated.
II. SRM. MEANINGS AND DETERMINATION.
A number of authors, Donoghue [4], IDC [13] argue existence of three essential elements in SRM: collaboration, integration and trust.
A. Colaboration

One way is to take the collaboration partner enterprises of the principle just the right time (JIT) ?Fig. 1?.

Larson [14] Guerra and Cianchette [15] consider that such cooperation does not require for networking organizations just an art of maintaining a balance between supply and demand, or only a mathematical rigor in the production process, or perfect synchronization of supply in customer-supplier equation, but also the mutual benefit provided by implementing common applications that enable continuous exchange of information and better control over the management of long-term contracts. More flexible organizational processes in terms of SRM by such agreements also involve discussion between the partners for the availability of affordable solutions. It is envisaged first the customer savings, and secondly guarantees for suppliers that goods will not remain in stock.
As for cooperation in the information exchange, Wienclaw [16], Wis. & Morrison [17] explain historical development of relations with suppliers, especially by making B2B software, by computer networks, the purchase and installation software , ideas, supported by Sethi [2] by showing businesses real time access in to information shared as a result of overcoming many of the technical barriers of the past thanks to the IT boom of 21st century.
B. Integration
By integrating, SRM intends to deepen the ties of dependency and mutual influence between the parties, creating the synergy processes in the value chain. Synthesizing the best practices of SRM, Barry, Senthil and Pradip [18] agree that the key business players, using a common e-platform of trade and marketing (e-marketplaces) they enlarge their e-business concerns, synchronizing the processes by connecting companies directly or indirectly. A similar view expresses the researchers Gartner Group [19] concerning the activation e-sourcing activities and e-procurement in B2B electronic market platform using the Internet. This approach to SRM enables large enterprises, small and medium to exchange goods, services, and information in a more efficient and effective way than was previously possible. Even if the supplier relationship management is theoretically it has a broad coverage and is not in Daley?s opinion [20] fully installed as a competence in business management, but rather accepted and defined as a formal discipline after Evans [21]. As a result of inadequate definition in SRM organizations it has little impact. It is in an identity crisis and has reduced its functions in integrated enterprise activities. Given the current limited objectives, particularly the cost of operating and risk management, says Vliet [22], SRM does not always appear as a source of competitive advantage. His study shows first frequency signal that this happens in organizations whose managers focus exclusively on supply problems, with low important component in increasing the effectiveness of relationship management. Secondly, some companies always pay attention to what managers are doing to strengths the links with suppliers recognizing the significance of relative size is important in creating value for the benefit of both parties.
C. Trust
The success depends on reliability and commitment of each partner in achieving strategies. Thus, SRM requests the acquisition and implementation of skills, values and behaviors aligned without distinction between providers. Usually, Mettler and Rohner [23] argue that the relationship with the suppliers concerns directly the development of the product or service. Taking into account these arguments as valid, Gecker [24] consider the beginning of the relationship as a strategic sourcing initiative and Emiliani [25] aware that this subsequently evolves in data and performance indicators. Adapting to the changing demands of end users is possible, as claimed by Lintukangas [26], the proximity of suppliers to increase trust and deepening cooperation and interaction.
Given these above three components, the company may adopt and implement a management system of providers to meet needs and to establish requirements in a fair. It may also standardizing the nomenclature of products, as suggested by Poirier [27]. This way no confusion or misunderstanding may occur regarding the delivery of goods or services.
III. BEHAVIOUR-COMMITMENTS IN SUPPLIER RELATIONSHIPS
A. Behaviour
Different behavior of economic agents and consumers are influenced by the needs and possibilities of access to resources. In their efforts to have a certain influence, the economic actors are in different relationships, but in Pound?s opinion [28], without always having a systematic and successful way. Therefore, as Moldovan [29] says, a relationship is convenient while it works fine. That is, for as long as the work and effort are appreciated and the desires and needs are taken into account. Achieving and maintaining connections in B2B relationships are the result of the efforts of partners. Strengthening of relationship gives safety to the parties while confidence expresses and devotion records. Thus supplier knows that he will have support if problems arise. However in a combination of type SRM it may occur elements that do not go well, that may vitiate the relationship, destabilize even hopelessly compromise it. It may appear different points of view (even if the ideas seem to be converging) state of decline, demotivation. Overcoming or elimination of problems in organizations can be done by using analytical models and influence behavior. Patterson, Grenny, Maxfield and McMillan [30], propose the use of the ?six sources of influence? model through which the company can identify measurable results, vital behavior and motivations and skills ?figure 2 ?.

Establishing the organization?s mission by using this model will inevitably change the attitude. Delimitation of of the relationship and clearly state of rules then you have to work with it will remove any assumptions that the partner would know instinctively to adapt the situations. Knowing the parameters of the relationship, perception of partner changes. Provider is given trust and hope in addressing seriously the obligations assumed. Therefore, understanding compliance requirements increase safety and reliability. Being a long process, building and confidence building is addressed especially to men. Abosag, Tynan and Lewis [31] argue that individuals? emotional involvement further reflects on economic relations Therefore, curdling trust claims politeness, friendship, empathy, similarity, honestly.
B. Commitement
Studying organizational behavior, especially in personal ?organization relationship, enabled the emergence of the concept of commitment in the early 1950s. After Abrahamsson [32], the evolution and development of the concept of commitment as presented in today literature, is based on several investigations, claims and disputes between researchers. Many definitions of commitment and measurement methods have been integrated in different models, the most commonly used model of organizational commitment has three components ? affective commitment, normative commitment and continuous commitment as proposed by Meyer and Allen [33].
By adopting commitment by the supplier, according to Abosag, Tynan, Lewis Dwyer [31], it is outlined the long-term benefits: quality products with lower cost information flow improved. The concept of Schurr and Oh [34], the implicit or explicit promise to continue the relationship is supported by Somogyi and Gyau [35], but it is envisaged the faith of partners for any short-term sacrifices to maintain the stability and efficiency as assessed Gyau and Spiller [36].
Representing the amount engages different entities to work together for a common goal, commitment is central to economic relations between partners. In Vogele?s opinion [37], commitment is the force that drives the relationship forward thus it is equated with growth or profitability. Studying manifestation commitment partners Corner and Patterson [38] Corner [39], notifies the occurrence of all kinds of tensions, resistances, and barriers that make it difficult to maintain it because the parties are unable to see the scale from the beginning their actions. The proposed model identifies three major phases of involvement in change, each assuming the completion of several steps ?fig. 3?.

IV. SEGMENTATION OF SUPPLIERS. PARTNERSHIP
To become more competitive companies must face global competition may otherwise risk leaving the business.
Following the achieving of additional values larger companies can make mistakes in choosing suppliers.
Hence the need to identify key suppliers. Degree of cooperation from the perspective of Billingt, Cordon, Volmanit [40], can provide a segmentation of suppliers in a mix of four levels ?fig. 4? on low, common to one very high of super-collaboration.

Trying to determine the depth of the relationship between partners in a business, Lambert [41], proposes a segmentation of collaborations with suppliers through a process with four components as follows: close, partnership, association, vertical integration ?fig. 5?

Lambert, Knemeyer, Gardner [42], confirm that the common law definition of partnership as a business relationship based on mutual trust, openness, sharing risks and rewards arising in business. Therefore, the partnership provides high performance of companies involved, more than would be achieved if they work separately.
Creating and implementing a partnership is a great challenge for managers who know that not all providers may be considered partners. Therefore their interest goes to those companies which will be a true partner. Implementing, developing and improving relations with suppliers can be based on a partnership model involving assessment, formulation, consultation, implementation, negotiation.
Any partnership model contains three types of partnership, says Lambert [41] by making the following specification:
? Type I ? with the wider use and with recognition as partners. Short-term approach.
? Type II ? does not emphasize coordination of activities but more on their integration in a longer time horizon.
? Type III which requires a high level of operational integration.
The enshrined partnership model in Lambert?s conception consists of three elements: ?engine? (Drivers), ?catalyst? (Facilitators), and ?components? (Components), ?fig. 6?.

The three elements lead to an expected result of parties: operational integration.
a) Driver elements are established after careful examination of potential parties counting on their belief in significant benefits by: (1) cost efficiency, (2) improve customer service, (3) marketing advantage and (4) before stability / growth.
and develop partnership providing a basis for good relations while establishing materiality chance. Facilitators include: (1) corporate compatibility, (2) similar managerial philosophy and techniques, (3) reciprocity and (4) symmetry.
c) Component elements are mostly similar set of managerial actions and events that determines and dominates the life of the partnership. Components are operational relationship through: planning, control, communication, sharing of risks and rewards sharing etc.
Sharing of above elements leads to a result that implies an assessment, perhaps a readjustment. Feedback requires regular updating of state drivers, facilitators and components. Own processes and performance measurement provider enables companies to fully inform the partner, not only about the lowest price
V. CONCLUSIONS
The message of this study reinforces the idea that enterprise economy is more advantageous if it is placed increased emphasis on relations with suppliers. As a relatively young discipline, supplier relationship management has no strong response in practice, not being widely adopted in business. Dealing primarily with segmentation suppliers, establishing performance measurement tools and being currently limited to a series of e-processes, SRM is easily confused with a component of acquisition chain (SCM). Therefore, in the forthcoming period, SRM will remain stuck especially in the area of electronic research of the best prices and markets as well as e-procurement, due to increasing interest shown by organizations for the installation of custom electronic systems for tracking processes. Therefore it is for the managers to reconsider SRM and ensure strengthening current practices, especially regarding the relationships of the organization change attitudes, to transfer information on process outsourcing, procurement, contract tracking, etc. SRM adoption by organizations is part of a new management philosophy to increase the commitment and ability of suppliers, to maintain a successful relationship with them.

Time to drive home a point in long-distance relationship

My boyfriend and I are in a long-distance relationship and agreed to split our visits 50-50 between our cities. Initially, it worked great. Unfortunately, his work schedule has changed, and for the past year he has come here to visit me only once every month or so, while I frequently drive for hours to see him.

He says that because he's away from home for work, it's only fair that I travel to see him since it's "less trouble" for me. I understand that he puts in a lot of time with travel for work, but at what point does the ratio become unbalanced and unfair?

I miss weekends in my city with my friends, and it makes me sad that he won't make the effort to see me. What do you think is right in this matter? -- UNCERTAIN IN SAN FRANCISCO

DEAR UNCERTAIN:

"What's right" is the original agreement you had with your boyfriend, or something close to it. Because he is no longer willing to live up to his part in the bargain, consider seeing him less often.

Perhaps if he has a chance to miss you, he will feel impelled to make more of an effort. And if he's not, then you won't have to cut off your social relationships at home -- relationships you may need if this romance doesn't work out the way you would like.

DEAR ABBY:

My wife of 32 years has delusional jealousy. It is so bad that she has checked my genitals and questioned the neighbors' wives. I have stayed in this marriage only because of our children, who are now adults.

I am at a crisis point where I want a divorce. I detest throwing 32 years away, but I have no love for this woman. We have sought counseling three times. However, once I start describing her delusions, the sessions quickly stop. -- WANTS OUT IN COLORADO

DEAR WANTS OUT:

Nowhere in your letter could I discern a question, but from my vantage point, I disagree that you would "throw 32 years away." You used that time to make sure your children were grown and independent.

I'm sorry about your wife's delusions, but because she is unwilling to follow through with counseling, there is nothing you or I can do about them. If you want my permission to end this marriage, I can't grant it; only you can do that for yourself.

DEAR ABBY:

My sister is engaged to a severe alcoholic. I host the annual Christmas dinners and I feel stuck. When he was here last year, he broke a wine glass that held special meaning for my husband and me and generally made a fool of himself.

Should I invite my sister and tell her that her fiance isn't welcome? (They live together.) He has gotten even worse this year. He broke three bones because he was so drunk he fell, and he left rehab three times in one month. I'm a cancer survivor and do not need the stress in my life. -- NERVOUS IN NEW YORK

DEAR NERVOUS:

I agree that you shouldn't subject yourself to unnecessary stress. Your health must come first.

If you haven't discussed this with your sister, do it now. A way to include her and her fiance would be to serve no alcohol during your Christmas celebration. However, if that isn't feasible, then tell her that until her fiance is able to stay "dry," you regret that you will be unable to entertain them.

The new E-book 5 Cloud Computing Facts Every Business Owner Must Know Before Moving Their Network To The Cloud published by Mobilitechs.com takes a thorough look into the state of the cloud computing industry by looking at five critical areas of knowledge about cloud computing. The 14 page PDF is available for free download and is packed with helpful insights for business owners in Reading, Lancaster, Wyomissing, and Allentown, PA.

The research firm IDC estimates that by the year 2014, the cloud services market will top $ 55 billion. Today?s businesses and their employees already use an estimated $ 100 million in cloud computing services ? but many business owners don?t know what the cloud is, how their businesses can benefit from cloud computing, and what their ROI would be from investing in cloud technology.

Mobilitechs has place together this 14 page cloud computing e-book to discuss some of these vital changes and to complement the Cloud computing webinar they?ll be holding on December 13, 2012, and December 14, 2012.

A must-read for business owners considering the Cloud, this E-book takes an in-depth look at what you must know before hiring a cloud integrator and offers a comparison of the costs and ROI of cloud computing versus traditional managed services,? says Michael Sutton, president of Mobilitechs.

This e-book defines cloud computing and types of cloud computing options, including hybrid cloud solutions. It also examines the pros of using this technology, including reduced IT infrastructure and hardware costs. The e-book guide discusses common concerns associated with migrating your business network to the cloud, including data security and Internet connectivity interruptions. Finally, this e-book takes a look at the costs of an onsite IT network versus a fully managed cloud solution and questions to question BEFORE hiring a cloud computing company.

South Africa building new-look Twenty20 unit

A return to a problem of old hampered South Africa the last time they played in the shortest format at the World Twenty20. Middle-order batsman Farhaan Behardien suggested instability in the line-up was to blame for the team returning empty handed.

"Where we struggled in Sri Lanka was that we lost early wickets and then the slow bowlers come on and it was difficult to rebuild," he said. Apart from the match against Zimbabwe, which South Africa won by ten wickets, they lost their first two batsmen for a maximum of 28 runs in the other fixtures.

The combination of Richard Levi and Hashim Amla did not work and when Levi was dropped for the final match, Jacques Kallis partnered Amla also with little success. Neither Kallis nor Amla is part of the current squad, although Levi is. If he plays, he is expected to be joined at the top by either the captain Faf du Plessis or the uncapped Henry Davids , who could also form a partnership of their own.

While different pairs could solve the issue to an extent, South Africa's floating middle order also unsettles them. As they aim to build a new-look T20 side, starting with the matches against New Zealand, role definition and countering the spin threat have become two of the major areas under consideration.

Behardien indicated that the first of those had already been ironed out, especially for him. "My job is assessing the risk. If we lose early wickets upfront, my job is risk management and seeing how we can maximise the remaining overs to get to a high total. And to play the spinners low risk," he said. "But if we have a good start, without too many wickets in the first few overs, we can take on the spinners. That's one of our focuses going forward."

Even without Daniel Vettori in the New Zealand line-up, South Africa are wary of New Zealand's spinners. Ronnie Hira, the left-armer, took three wickets in the warm-up match against South Africa A, including that of Justin Ontong, while Nathan McCullum was economical in his three overs of offspin. "We've had a lot of practice against spin in the one-day cup," Behardien said.

With the major emphasis on technical aspects, South Africa could forget that a transition phase also involves building a new team culture but Berhardien said that has been equally high on their agenda. With regular limited-overs captain AB de Villiers opting out of the series, stand-in leader du Plessis will have to create his own environment for the players to excel in.

Du Plessis captained South Africa A against Sri Lanka A in June and the players who were involved in that series, like Behariden, got a taste of his leadership style. "He is very big on team culture. Everybody is not for themselves. You've got to give, you've got to be selfless, whether it be throw-downs, extra catches, helping generally, packing up the kit- those very small things."

Most importantly, with the pressure of a major tournament not hanging over them, Berhardien hopes the mood in the camp will lighten. "It's all been a bit serious over the last while and sometimes we forget that we need to have fun and express ourselves.

"As players we get stiff and we get tight because we want to do so well and perform for our country. So you forget that this is what you've been wanting to do since you were a little kid and when you forget about those values then you don't really perform at your best, because you are too tense and worrying the whole time about the results."

Russell Domingo, South Africa's new Twenty20 coach, said he will not look as far ahead as the 2014 World T20. The upcoming matches are more about laying the groundwork for a short-form unit that can go on and replicate the successes of the Test side.

"The team culture won't be much different to what is in the Test side," Behardien said. "It might be tweaked a bit with a new captain and a new coach. Sometimes the same thing can be said in a slightly different way and it could make a world of difference to the individual and something could click. I think it is a fresh approach and I am quite excited to be a part of it."

Women earn more if they work in different occupations than men, large international study finds

Dec. 18, 2012 ? Women earn less money than men the more the sexes share the same occupations, a large-scale survey of 20 industrialised countries has found.

Researchers from the universities of Cambridge, UK, and Lakehead, Canada, found that the more women and men keep to different trades and professions, the more equal is the overall pay average for the two sexes in a country.

The researchers attribute the surprising results to the fact that when there are few men in an occupation, women have more chance to get to the top and earn more. But where there are more equal numbers of men and women working in an occupation the men dominate the high-paying jobs.

The research, published Dec. 18 in the journal Sociology, compared the degree to which men and women are working in different professions with the gap between their pay.

Pay was most equal in Slovenia, where women on average earn slightly more than men, and in Mexico, Brazil, Sweden and Hungary, where women earn almost as much as men on average. In these countries men and women work in different occupations to a greater extent than in many of the other countries the researchers looked at.

In other countries such as Japan, the Czech Republic, Austria and Netherlands, women are more likely to work in the same occupations as men, and the gap between their pay and men's is higher than average. The UK was higher than average among the 20 countries for inequality in pay.

The researchers, Professor Robert Blackburn and Dr Girts Racko, of Cambridge, and Dr Jennifer Jarman, of Lakehead, used statistics for each country on the proportion of women and men in each occupation, and the overall average gap in pay. They correlated these to show the relationships between workplace segregation of the sexes and the gap in their pay.

"Higher overall segregation tends to reduce male advantage and improve the position of women," the researchers say in their paper.

"The greater the degree of overall segregation, the less the possibility exists for discrimination against women and so there is more scope for women to develop progressive careers.

"For instance, within nursing men disproportionately fill the senior positions...but the fewer the number of male nurses, the more the senior positions must be filled by women.

"Perhaps our most important finding is that, at least for these industrially developed countries, overall segregation and the vertical [pay gap] dimension are inversely related. The higher the overall segregation, the lower the advantage to men. This is directly contrary to popular assumptions."
